Meet Micah Sarang Pae! |
Micah Sarang Pae is a fourth grade student at Ruthab Elementary School. She was born in Kwangjoo, Korea but moved to a mid-sized rural town in Virginia when she was two years old. Micah is the first child of two. Micah is now 10 years old and has a sister in second grade who attends the same elementary school. She has a very supportive family, and parents who have received both high school diplomas and college degrees. Her family is currently placed as a middle class family, and her parents have created their own personal business that they are successfully managing. Although Micah did not receive any schooling in Korea, she was sent to the newcomer center when beginning her schooling here in the states because her first language was Korean. However, her parents are also able to speak and understand English at an intermediate level. They have spoken mostly Korean at home but also spoke and read to their daughter in English. Her English proficiency level is 4.4 according to the WIDA standards (in depth scoring results are provided in context for assessment). Micah is in my homeroom classroom as well as my Language Arts class. She loves to read all sorts of books! She reads chapter books and also enjoys read aloud. She pays careful attention to the stories read in class. Micah is very shy and does not talk or involve herself during class discussions. However, she does talk when she is paired up with her friend. She seems to be more comfortable talking with small groups of people. |
