About Me
Hello! My name is Sharon Bae, and I am currently a senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies with an Elementary Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages minor at James Madison University. In my past educational experience, I haven’t had extremely memorable or inspirational teachers, who affected my career choice. So, why teaching? My decision to become a teacher was made at a mission trip in Costa Rica the summer before entering JMU. It was there that I saw the beauty of being a part of teaching and giving an opportunity for someone to learn. There were young single mothers, who came from very broken families and painful backgrounds, who chose to change their lives through learning and building their own paths apart from a past that was chaining them down. It was then that I was able to see that teaching was more than just a career. It is hope. My heart for teaching roots from my heart for those who feel like they cannot accomplish anything; those who feel as if they will permanently remain in the ditches of a life they have been born into. I wish to tell them there is always hope, and it starts with believing that they are capable of learning and being more than what the world might tell them they are. |
Above are pictures of my past teaching experiences in different Thailand and Mexico.

About this site
One of the courses I am required to take for my TESOL minor is a course about creating assessments for ELLs. The course focuses on teaching and educating future teachers what qualities to be aware of when creating assessments. In this course, we also learned how to create appropriate assessments for particular classrooms and students; depending on what is being tested, the assessments will be different. However, it is important to be mindful that all students are different in their learning styles, which means they also need to be assessed in various ways. A good mixture of various kinds of assessments are important when assessing the levels of students across contents. Continue to visit different parts of the website to learn more about assessments!
